1411 years ago, in 610 A.D., Prophet Muhammad founded Islam, which has become the second-largest religion in the world. According to Islamic beliefs, the initial revelations of the holy book known as the Quran were received by the Prophet from angel Gabriel who visited him in Mecca, Arabia. Muslims consider the Quran, like the Bible, to contain the exact words of God or Allah.

The holy month of Ramadan, in the Islamic calendar, is celebrated to mark the time when the revelation occurred. Muslims observe this month with fasting, restraint, and reflection. They refrain from eating or drinking from dawn to sunset for one month while avoiding any bad deeds and impure thoughts. The month-long fasting concludes with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, or the Festival of Breaking the Fast, which is observed today.

We can learn a lot from our Muslim brothers and sisters about discipline and dedication in our daily lives. Ramadan’s fasting is a testament to their commitment to self-restraint and spiritual reflection. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims around the world!
