Palm Sunday holds a significant place in the Christian calendar, marking the beginning of the Holy Week, a time for contemplation and sacrifice. It is a moment to seek divine forgiveness for past mistakes and renew one’s commitment to lead a righteous life. However, some may see it as an opportunity to capitalize on the fervor of the faithful, a chance to turn a profit in the name of God.

Coy Pagahe, a tricycle driver from Delfan, Tondo, Manila, has seized this chance to sell palm fronds, or “Palaspas,” during the sacred occasion. While his wife also sells the same thing in their neighborhood, Coy prefers to sell his wares near the Manila Cathedral, where competition is lower, and he has a better chance of making a better sale.

While Pagahe’s actions may seem opportunistic to some, he is not necessarily disregarding the spiritual significance of the day but rather using his skills and resources to support himself and his family.
